Sailing is a sport that in a very general way, is the development of sailboat races (called regattas), which take place at sea, in lakes or any body of water with enough area to set up a course.

In March of 2008, Puerto Vallarta hosted the MEXORC and Banderas Bay Regatta sailing events. The Mexican Ocean Racing Circuit (MEXORC) has been one of the most prestigious ocean sailing events since its inception in 1976. Competitors include the best of the Mexican and North American fleets. In its 32 years, this bi-annual race has had as many as 300 participants a year.
