Sailing is a sport that in a very general way, is the development of sailboat races (called regattas), which take place at sea, in lakes or any body of water with enough area to set up a course. The track is defined by buoys, forming an irregular hexagon, through which run routes indicated by a Committee boat that is part of the course and is responsible for recording the arrival and departure records of the competing boats.
The Laser is a monohull vessel which is part of the Olympic sailing classes (classes which participate in the Olympic Games) which has the largest number of boats and competitors in the world. It is a boat sailed by one person and has one sail; the mainsail.
The National Laser Championship is an event endorsed by the Federación Mexicana de Vela and thereby the National Sports Commission as well as the Mexican Olympic Committee, all which began thirty years ago, principally from lake Valle de Bravo.
The 2008 National Laser Championship event will be hosted at the Marina Riviera Nayarit, located in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Bahia de Banderas, Nayarit. The event will be held from October 23rd through 26th and is expecting the participation of at least 50 top competitors from throughout the Republic of Mexico. The event winners go on to form the Mexican National Laser Team to represent our country in various international competitions, amongst them; the World Cup, the European Championship, the Central-South American Championship and the North American Championship.
